What this Trial Is About
This research aims to evaluate the clinical effect of adding ultrasound-guided pulsed radiofrequency treatment to the distal sensory branches of the nerve to vastus medialis alongside conventional genicular nerve radiofrequency treatment in adults with chronic knee pain caused by knee osteoarthritis. The study includes patients aged 45 to 80 years with knee osteoarthritis confirmed clinically and radiologically, experiencing chronic knee pain for at least 3 months despite conservative treatments. The goal is to compare outcomes between patients receiving conventional genicular nerve radiofrequency alone and those receiving the combined treatment.
Participants receive either ultrasound-guided conventional radiofrequency treatment targeting the genicular nerves or the same treatment plus pulsed radiofrequency applied to the distal sensory branches of the nerve to vastus medialis. Both procedures are performed as part of routine clinical care, without additional interventions for research purposes. Two cohorts are observed based on the treatment they receive.
Participants will be assessed before the procedure, then at 1 month and 3 months afterward. Pain intensity will be measured using the Visual Analog Scale, and functional status will be evaluated with the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index WOMAC. Safety monitoring will include reviewing adverse events such as hematoma, infections, neuropathic pain increases, or temporary motor impairment recorded in patient files. Follow-up aligns with standard clinical practice timelines.
