What this Trial Is About
Researchers are evaluating a nurse-led coping and supportive care intervention for patients with triple-negative breast cancer TNBC, a type of breast cancer that makes up about 10-15% of all cases. This group faces a higher risk of recurrence and death due to limited treatment options after initial therapy. The study aims to improve psychosocial outcomes such as quality of life, anxiety, and fear of cancer returning during the transition from cancer treatment to surveillance. The study compares the RESTORE program, which is a virtual, small-group, cognitive-behavioral therapy-based intervention led by trained nurses, to an enhanced usual care group receiving educational survivorship information. RESTORE consists of five weekly one-hour teleconference sessions focused on coping skills, relaxation, and mindfulness, followed by two 15-minute check-in phone calls later in the study. Participants complete questionnaires at enrollment, 12 weeks, and 24 weeks. Participants will be involved for six months, completing surveys to measure anxiety, depression, coping, social support, and fear of recurrence. The study will assess program feasibility through enrollment, retention, session attendance, and acceptability. This pilot randomized trial is designed to test if this supportive care approach is practical and well-received by patients with early-stage TNBC transitioning from curative treatment to surveillance.
