Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Adults aged 18 to 80 years
- For Alzheimer's group: pre-clinical Alzheimer's with normal cognition but positive biomarkers, or symptomatic Alzheimer's/dementia with capacity to consent
- For non-Alzheimer's group: adults 18 years or older
- Patients seen for rhinology or olfactory disorders
- Patients undergoing unrelated endoscopic nasal surgery
You will not qualify if you...
- Advanced Alzheimer's or dementia
- Known allergy to Afrin or Tetracaine or related drugs
- Active rhinosinusitis symptoms
- History of sinonasal disease that prevents biopsy (e.g., prior sinus or skull base surgery, sinonasal tumors, olfactory cleft polyps)
- Parkinson's disease
- Unable or unwilling to complete nasal endoscopy
- Unable to read or speak English
- Unable to provide legally effective consent
