Researchers are evaluating a new educational approach to improve bowel preparation before colonoscopy in elderly patients aged 60 and above. This method combines standard written instructions with an animated video designed to present complex medical guidance in an easy-to-understand way. The goal is to support elderly participants who may have difficulty with written instructions, reduce their anxiety before the procedure, and increase their compliance. The study focuses on improving colonoscopy outcomes by enhancing bowel cleansing in the geriatric population. Participants are randomly assigned to one of two groups: one group receives standard written instructions plus an animated training video, while the other group receives only the standard written instructions. The animated video was created collaboratively by medical and graphic arts departments to provide both visual and auditory training. The study uses the Boston Bowel Preparation Scale (BBPS), a validated scoring system assessing bowel cleanliness during colonoscopy, to compare the effectiveness of these instructional methods. During the study, participants will undergo colonoscopy with assessment of bowel preparation quality using the BBPS, which scores three segments of the colon for a total cleanliness score. Researchers will also monitor colonoscopy completion rates. The study aims to contribute to better colonoscopy preparation protocols for the elderly and may offer a model adaptable to other age groups. Participation involves following the assigned instructions and undergoing the colonoscopy procedure, with outcome measures focused on bowel preparation quality and procedure completion.
