Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Age 60 or older
- At high risk of falling by answering "Yes" to any of the following: had a fall in the past year; difficulty standing without using hands; worry about falling
- Able to speak audibly and clearly in English
- Able to walk with or without an assistive device
- Self-reported challenges navigating outside the home environment
- At least some or much difficulty, or unable to: walk one block, step onto a curb, get out of a straight back chair, climb one flight of stairs, or get out of the house
You will not qualify if you...
- Receiving ongoing physical therapy primarily focused on improving lower body balance and strength
- Experiencing acute health problems like fractures, pain, or infections that prevent exercising
- Able to stand on one foot for more than 10 seconds without support
- Scoring 2 or less on the 6-item Callahan cognitive phone assessment, indicating possible dementia
- Participating in other studies that could affect fall-related behavior change
- Regularly doing moderate or vigorous physical activities requiring lower body balance and strength for over 100 minutes per week for more than 3 months
