What this Trial Is About
Researchers are evaluating a patient navigation program designed to address disparities in breast cancer care, focusing on underserved women newly diagnosed with breast cancer or ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). The goal is to improve patient knowledge about clinical and supportive care services, help patients navigate existing resources, manage barriers to care, and enhance skills related to cancer treatment management. This approach aims to increase health equity and improve social needs and quality of life over time for these patients. Participants receive patient navigation services from a trained patient navigator as needed. This support helps patients better understand available care and resources, overcome barriers, and manage their cancer treatment more effectively. Questionnaires are also used as ancillary tools to gather additional information related to the study objectives. During the study, researchers will monitor enrollment and retention rates, reasons for refusal or discontinuation, and collect data on quality of life, social determinants of health, barriers to care, use of supportive services, and patient satisfaction. The study includes assessments and surveys over up to two years to evaluate the impact of the navigation program on participants' care and well-being.
