Pictorial Fit-Frail Scale in Adults Admitted to the Intensive Care Unit in a Tertiary Center- an Observational Prospective Study

This research aims to better understand the levels of frailty in critically ill adults aged 60 and older admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) at a tertiary center. Frailty is a condition marked by increased vulnerability to health problems such as disability, falls, dependency, and higher mortality risk. The study explores how frailty measured by the Pictorial Fit-Frail Scale (PFFS) relates to other health factors and patient outcomes including mortality and length of hospital stay. Participants or their caregivers will complete the PFFS questionnaire, a quick and easy-to-use tool for assessing frailty without requiring clinical examination or extensive cooperation. This scale has been validated in various healthcare settings and is now standard practice at the ICU admission for patients over 60. The study observes patients over time to evaluate PFFS scores alongside other prognostic scores and their association with ICU length of stay, ventilation duration, ICU mortality, and mortality up to 90 days after ICU admission. During the study, researchers will collect data on mortality within 90 days of ICU admission, ICU and hospital mortality during the initial stay, and lengths of stay in ICU and hospital up to 90 days. The study is observational, monitoring these outcomes without altering patient treatment. Participants are involved from admission through their ICU stay and up to 90 days post-admission, allowing researchers to assess longer-term outcomes related to frailty.
