Study of Long-Term Symptoms and Effects in Adults Recovered from COVID-19 EuCARE-POSTCOVID

Researchers are investigating the long-term effects of COVID-19 by studying patients who have recovered from the acute phase of the disease to understand the prevalence and possible predictors of post COVID-19 condition. This condition involves symptoms that persist or newly appear at least three months after the initial infection, lasting for two or more months without another explanation. The study aims to identify factors such as age, gender, disease severity, and viral variants that may influence these ongoing symptoms and related organ damage. The study includes patients who have recovered from mild to severe COVID-19, with data collected retrospectively from post COVID-19 outpatient clinics and prospectively through ongoing follow-up visits. Patients undergo routine blood tests and evaluations by infectious disease specialists and other relevant medical professionals such as pulmonologists, cardiologists, neurologists, and psychologists, depending on individual clinical needs. Participants will be monitored over an average of three years to assess the incidence and persistence of post COVID-19 condition, identify risk factors, and evaluate long-term damage to organs including lungs, heart, and nervous systems. The study will also examine the role of different viral variants and immune responses. Data collection involves clinical visits, laboratory tests, and specialist assessments to provide a comprehensive understanding of post COVID-19 outcomes.
