Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Age between 65 and 90 years
- Scheduled for elective major abdominal surgery expected to last over 2 hours
- American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status classification I to III
You will not qualify if you...
- Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) score less than 15
- Renal failure requiring dialysis or liver failure with Child-Pugh score greater than 5
- Severe brain injury or impairment due to structural or hypoxic causes
- More than 2 days spent in ICU within one month before surgery
- Major heart, lung, or abdominal surgery within the past year
- Positive for SARS-CoV-2 or symptomatic for COVID-19
- Unable to complete cognitive assessment due to blindness, deafness, or language barriers
- Unavailable for long-term follow-up due to homelessness, active psychosis, or substance abuse
