What this Trial Is About
Researchers are studying the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori infection in newly diagnosed stomach cancer patients in the West Indies. This research aims to understand why stomach cancer rates are higher in this region compared to France. The study also plans to create a biobank of tumor tissues, healthy tissues, and blood samples to explore other risk factors, including environmental pollutants, that may contribute to stomach cancer. Patients suspected of having gastric cancer will undergo systematic biopsies of the tumor and stomach lining during an initial fibroscopy. These biopsies will be analyzed using immunohistochemistry to detect Helicobacter pylori. An additional blood sample will be collected for serological testing. Participants will also complete a questionnaire to provide further information. During the study, participants will be asked to provide consent for using diagnostic specimens and to complete questionnaires. Researchers will measure the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori infection at baseline. The study includes ongoing data collection and monitoring, with participants involved during their initial diagnostic process. The study is sponsored by the University Hospital Center of Martinique and will run until December 2028.
