Multicenter Observational Study on Donor and Recipient Management to Improve Lung Transplant Outcomes in Adults PROMISE-Lung Research Project

Researchers are conducting an observational, prospective, multicenter cohort study involving 2,600 lung transplant donors, adult lung transplant candidates, and recipients aged 18 years and older. The study aims to create a comprehensive resource by collecting clinical data, blood samples, and patient-reported outcomes to explore the effects of donor and medical practice variations on transplant outcomes and identify serum biomarkers linked to post-transplant complications. Participants include those listed for a single or bilateral lung transplant or those who have received a transplant within the past 30 days. The study follows the standard care protocols at each center to minimize extra visits, collecting data and biological specimens such as plasma, serum, and DNA samples during routine care visits. Donor DNA collection is optional. Patient-reported outcome measures are also gathered over time to support future research. During the study, participants undergo scheduled data extraction or transfers at set intervals along with serial blood and DNA sample collections. Researchers monitor the number of participants enrolled, completeness of critical variables, the quantity of patient-reported outcomes collected, and specimens gathered over a three-year period. The study is designed to ensure high-quality data to improve management at each transplant stage, with participation lasting until June 2027.
