Researchers are conducting the Puerto Rico Observational Study of Psychosocial, Environmental, and Chronic Disease Trends to understand how psychosocial, food-related, and cardiometabolic risk factors affect cardiovascular-related health disparities in Puerto Rico. This study will follow a group of 2,500 adults aged 30 to 75 years, recruited from various clinics across the island, to examine how these factors relate to chronic diseases over time. Participants will be part of a community-wide, longitudinal population cohort with data collected at the start and followed up after two years. The study will gather detailed information on psychosocial conditions, dietary habits, food security, biological markers related to cardiovascular disease, and medical records. It will also analyze differences based on whether participants live in urban or rural areas and how conditions changed before and after Hurricane Maria. During the study, participants will provide information through interviews and medical data collection. Researchers will measure the number of participants diagnosed with chronic diseases over four years, comparing urban and rural populations. The study allows for long-term observation of health trends and factors affecting chronic diseases, with participant involvement expected over several years to support this comprehensive assessment.
