Radiotherapy Added to Standard Drug Treatment for Metastatic Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer to Prevent Tumor Growth or Spread

What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating whether adding targeted radiotherapy can reduce the chance of lung cancer growing or spreading compared to the usual drug combination treatment for metastatic non-small cell lung cancer NSCLC. This Phase 3 trial focuses on patients whose disease has worsened and explores if this new approach is better or worse than standard care. The study involves patients with stage IV NSCLC without actionable driver mutations, who have experienced limited progression on first-line immunotherapy or chemotherapy. Participants are randomly assigned to one of two groups one group receives stereotactic body radiotherapy SBRT followed by standard therapy, while the other group receives systemic therapy chosen by their doctor without SBRT. SBRT must be started within 3 weeks of enrollment for those in the radiotherapy group. Treatments follow current NSCLC guidelines and consider prior therapies and patient safety, including assessments by radiation oncologists. During the study, participants undergo regular evaluations including imaging to monitor tumor progression, safety assessments, and quality of life questionnaires. Researchers will measure progression-free survival and overall survival over 5.5 years, alongside tracking adverse events and patient-reported outcomes. Participants must be able to complete questionnaires in English, French, or Spanish and remain available for treatment and follow-up throughout the study duration.
