What this Trial Is About
This research evaluates a new surgical technique combining robotic-assisted inguinal hernia repair with simultaneous umbilical hernia repair using the da Vinci Single Port SP system. It is a prospective, single-center, single-arm study conducted in Belgium aiming to assess the safety and feasibility of this approach by looking at operative time, technical errors, mesh placement success, and perioperative complications. The study also examines patient-reported outcomes, quality of life, body image, and hernia recurrence one year after surgery. The surgery uses the da Vinci SP robotic system through a single umbilical access site to perform both inguinal and umbilical hernia repairs. After repairing the inguinal hernia, the umbilical defect is closed either by primary closure or with mesh reinforcement depending on size and current guidelines. Patients undergo surgery followed by hospital evaluation, then outpatient follow-ups at one month and one year post-surgery. Participants will be involved from surgery through one year of follow-up, with assessments during hospitalization and visits at one month and one year. Researchers will measure technical performance during surgery, complication rates up to one month after, and success rates. Patient questionnaires on quality of life and body image will be collected before surgery, at one month, and at one year. Hernia recurrence is monitored at one year to evaluate long-term outcomes.
