Researchers are conducting a school-based randomized controlled trial to evaluate the combined effect of auricular acupressure and defocus spectacle lenses for controlling myopia in primary school children with premyopia or myopia. The study involves students in grades 1 to 4 who meet specific vision criteria based on cycloplegic spherical equivalent refraction. The trial aims to measure changes in eye axial length and refractive error over 12 months while monitoring adherence and safety. Participants will be randomly assigned to either an intervention group receiving defocus spectacle lenses plus weekly auricular acupressure or a control group receiving defocus spectacle lenses alone. Defocus spectacle lenses are fitted according to standardized procedures and worn for 8 to 12 hours daily depending on the childs condition. Auricular acupressure involves weekly application of patches to specific ear points by trained personnel, with participants pressing the patches multiple times daily following instructions. Children will undergo comprehensive eye exams at the start and end of the 12-month study, with an additional follow-up visit at 6 months to assess vision and eye measurements. Researchers will track intervention adherence, lens adjustments, and any adverse events. The primary outcome is the change in axial length after 12 months, with secondary outcomes including refractive changes and safety monitoring.
