What this Trial Is About
This research focuses on adult women who have risky alcohol consumption, identified by a score of 3 or higher on the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test - Consumption (AUDIT-C). It aims to test if a combined approach of brief psychological counselling, Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA), and a social media psychosocial support group can help reduce alcohol intake. The study is a pilot randomized controlled trial designed to explore the feasibility, acceptability, and early effects of this intervention compared to a control group. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups. The control group receives brief alcohol counselling and health education based on their AUDIT score, along with weekly health education messages for 4 weeks. The intervention group participates in a 4-week psychological support group via social media, which includes interactive counselling and motivational messages tailored to their stage of change in alcohol use. Both groups will complete EMA and receive support through a popular instant messaging app. During the study, participants will be followed for 12 weeks with assessments at 4, 8, and 12 weeks after enrollment. Researchers will collect data on alcohol use, anxiety, depression, stress, and family well-being through telephone surveys. In-depth interviews will be conducted with the intervention group to understand their experience with the study tools and support group. The study will monitor differences in these measures between the groups to evaluate the intervention's impact.
