What this Trial Is About
Childhood obesity is a significant health issue affecting many children, with risk factors including lack of physical activity, poor eating habits, and excessive screen time. This study evaluates a gamified health education program aimed at improving diet, reducing sedentary behavior, and increasing daily physical activity in primary school children aged 6 to 7 years. The program seeks to involve children, their families, and teachers to encourage healthy habits and address overweight concerns early in life. The study randomly assigns children to one of four groups: no health education or rewards, no health education with rewards, health education without rewards, and health education with rewards. Rewards come in the form of avatar cards earned by completing activities on the app, which are designed to motivate participation. Weekly health education sessions complement the gamified activities in some groups, running over a 6-month period with activities scheduled daily, weekly, or biweekly. Participants will be monitored over 12 weeks, with assessments including changes in physical activity, body fat, weight, BMI, diet composition, and sedentary time. Additional measures include body composition details, dietary intake, psychological parameters, quality of life, and digital connection time. Researchers will track adherence through app engagement and evaluate the program's effects on health behaviors. The total study duration includes follow-up assessments to observe changes in health outcomes.
