Study of Language Disorders and Memory-Semantic Skills in Patients with Psychosis Including At-Risk Mental State, First Episode Psychosis, and Schizophrenia Compared to Healthy Volunteers

Researchers are studying language disorders in people with psychosis, including those at risk, experiencing a first episode, or diagnosed with schizophrenia. The study aims to understand how language difficulties affect communication and relate to thought disorders and neuropsychological symptoms. It also explores interactions between working memory and syntax abilities in these patients. The research compares patients language skills with those of healthy volunteers without mental or language disorders. Participants are divided into groups those with early psychotic symptoms ARMS and FEP, patients with schizophrenia, and healthy controls. Each group undergoes language assessments evaluating various language domains such as phonology, semantics, and pragmatics. Schizophrenia patients additionally complete the TLC scale, while all participants complete the Cannabis Abuse Screening Test CAST. Healthy controls also complete a psychiatric screening using the MINI. During the study, participants undergo comprehensive evaluations including language tests, psychiatric interviews, and neuropsychological assessments. Researchers measure language assessment performance, severity of speech disorganization, thought disorder symptoms, and working memory capacities. Data from medical records are analyzed for associations between language skills and psychiatric symptoms. The study enrollment includes participants aged 16 to 55 years and involves one day of assessments.
