What this Trial Is About
Metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is a common chronic liver condition affecting about 30% of adults worldwide. This research explores how thyroid dysfunction, which plays a key role in liver metabolism and maintaining metabolic balance, may be linked to the development and progression of MAFLD. The study aims to understand the prevalence of thyroid problems in people with this liver disease and their potential association. Participants will undergo assessment using a Fibroscan device, which measures liver fibrosis and fat buildup by sending elastic shear waves through the liver and analyzing their velocity. This device helps stage the severity of liver damage. The study focuses on adults with MAFLD, and their thyroid function will be evaluated to explore its relationship with liver health. During the study, researchers will measure levels of free triiodothyronine (FT3), a thyroid hormone, shortly after blood samples are taken. Participants will also have Fibroscan assessments to evaluate liver stiffness and fat content. These measurements will help determine links between thyroid hormone levels and liver disease severity. The study includes adults aged 18 and older, both male and female, and excludes those with prior thyroid disease, significant alcohol use, viral hepatitis, or pregnancy.
