Turkish Adaptation, Validation, and Reliability Assessment of the Geriatric Pain Measure - Short Form

Researchers are studying the Turkish adaptation, validation, and reliability of the Geriatric Pain Measure - Short Form, a tool designed to assess pain in older adults. This observational study involves 150 patients aged 65 years and older who experience chronic pain. The study aims to ensure that the Turkish version of the scale accurately measures pain and related factors in the geriatric population by following thorough cross-cultural adaptation and validation processes. The process includes translating the scale into Turkish and back to English by expert groups to maintain accuracy and cultural relevance. A multidisciplinary panel, including language and pain management specialists, reviews the final version. Participants will complete the Turkish scale under supervision, and the study will assess reliability through internal consistency and test-retest measures. Validity will be examined by correlating the scale with other established pain, sleep, and daily living assessments. During the study, participants will be evaluated using several tools on the first day, including the Geriatric Pain Measurement Short Form, Numeric Rating Scale, FRAIL Scale, Lawton & Brody Instrumental Activities of Daily Living Scale, Geriatric Depression Scale-15, and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. Pain management and gerontology specialists will oversee these assessments. Ethical approval has been obtained, and all participants will give informed consent before taking part. The study is sponsored by Başakşehir Çam & Sakura City Hospital and is expected to run until June 2025.
