What this Trial Is About
Researchers are studying the effects of music therapy on Alzheimer's disease by analyzing molecular biomarkers found in salivary exosomes. These exosomes carry signals from brain cells and offer a non-invasive way to observe biological changes. The study aims to fill gaps in knowledge about how music therapy affects neurochemical markers like serotonin, dopamine, amyloid-beta, and tau in Alzheimer’s patients. Participants will take part in a music intervention where they listen to symphonic, classical music for one hour at a University of Central Florida concert. All participants receive this music therapy, and the study will monitor molecular changes during a six-month period. The approach uses salivary exosomes to provide objective evidence of music therapy's biological effects. During the study, participants will undergo assessments that analyze salivary exosomes to measure molecular changes linked to Alzheimer’s disease. Researchers will also correlate biomarker changes with potential therapeutic benefits and individual differences. The total participation lasts six months, with ongoing monitoring to evaluate music therapy’s impact on the disease at a molecular level.
