Study of Video Classification of Intubation During Scheduled Surgery in Spain

This research focuses on airway management during scheduled surgeries in Spain, aiming to improve safety and care quality for patients facing difficult intubation. It evaluates the Video Intubation Classification VCI scale, a new method to describe videolaryngoscopic tracheal intubation, which includes blade type, glottic opening visibility, and ease of tube insertion. The study highlights the importance of recognizing and managing difficult airways to reduce complications and improve surgical outcomes. Participants are patients from the Iberian Peninsula undergoing scheduled surgery at the study hospital over a six-month period between 2024 and 2025. This observational study compares the VCI scores recorded by both observers and intubators within two minutes of the procedure. The classification aims to standardize communication and documentation of intubation details, supporting better airway management planning. During the study, participants will have their intubation procedures assessed using the VCI scale by both an observer and the intubator. The primary outcome measures are the VCI scores given by these two groups, each recorded within two minutes. The study involves no experimental treatments and focuses on data collection related to airway management during surgery. Participation lasts for the surgical period, with no additional long-term follow-up specified.
