What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating a specialized training program called the 4-STEP-Training Program for Social Media Addiction (4-STEP-TPS) aimed at young adults aged 18 to 30 years who experience social media addiction. The study plans to enroll 400 participants from across Pakistan for screening, with 90 eligible individuals randomly assigned to either the training program or a waitlist control. The program intends to address problems linked to social media addiction, such as dysfunctional behavior patterns, fear of missing out, phubbing, fatigue, insomnia, and psychological distress, while promoting healthier lifestyles and increased productivity. The 4-STEP-TPS program consists of four weekly sessions, each lasting about 90 minutes. The sessions include screening and psychoeducation, treatment planning and conceptualization, effective management strategies, and prevention of relapse through self-reflection and support building. Participants will attend these sessions either individually or in groups. Those assigned to the waitlist control will receive the intervention after the initial study period. Participants will be assessed at the start, after 4 weeks, and followed up to 6 months using several measures, including the Social Networking Addiction Scale, Secure Flourish Index, Fear of Missing Out Scale, Pubbing Scale, Fatigue Assessment Scale, Insomnia Severity Index, and Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scales. These assessments will help evaluate the program's impact on addiction severity, mental health, daily functioning, and overall wellbeing. The study includes ongoing monitoring and aims to provide valuable insights to improve treatment for social media addiction in young adults.
