What this Trial Is About

This research aims to evaluate how effective and acceptable a text messaging program is at promoting lung cancer screening among adults aged 50 to 80 years who have certain smoking histories. The study will compare this approach to receiving educational materials by mail, to see which better encourages people to undergo lung cancer screening. The purpose is to improve lung cancer screening rates through accessible communication methods. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups: one group will receive a text messaging program called UR Screened designed to encourage lung cancer screening, while the other group will receive mailed educational materials and a flyer about lung cancer screening programs. The intervention lasts for 12 weeks, during which participants receive these communications. During the study, participants will complete surveys at the start and after 3 months to measure their satisfaction and whether they underwent lung cancer screening. Researchers will track recruitment, follow-up rates, and compare how many people in each group complete lung cancer screening by month 3. The total participation period for each person is about three months.
