To evaluate whether emotional awareness, attachment style and the ability to abstract and symbolize (IQ) influence the appearance of somatic symptoms. Hypothesis: the investigators expect the presence of somatic symptoms linked to the lower ability of emotional awareness, to lower ability to abstract and symbolize and to an insecure attachment style.

Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Clinical condition with somatic symptoms like recurrent abdominal pain, vomiting, dyspepsia, psychogenic cough, or chronic functional pain for at least six months with significant impact on quality of life
- Age between 11 and 17 years
- Italian speaking
- Consent from both patient and parent
You will not qualify if you...
- Cognitive or developmental impairments
- Difficulty understanding the Italian language
- Diagnosis of an organic disease
- Lack of informed consent
- Patient does not meet DSM-5 criteria for somatic symptom disorder
- Caregiver has cognitive deficits
- Caregiver has difficulty understanding Italian
- Caregiver lacks informed consent
