Researchers are studying the effects of repeated ischemic preconditioning on blood pressure, heart rate, and inflammation markers in adults with chronic kidney disease CKD. This study aims to understand how intentional brief periods of reduced blood flow may protect the heart and blood vessels from damage in patients with various stages of CKD, including those undergoing hemodialysis. The trial is conducted by the Medical University of Lodz and focuses on prevention through ischemic episodes. Participants undergo a procedure involving four cycles of 5-minute inflation and deflation of a blood pressure cuff on the lower limb at a pressure above their systolic blood pressure. This procedure is repeated on three consecutive days during their hospitalization in the Department of Nephrology, Hypertension, Transplantology and Internal Diseases. The study groups include patients with CKD stages G1-G5 not on dialysis, CKD stage G5 patients on hemodialysis, and a control group without CKD. During the 4-day examination period, participants have their blood pressure, heart rate, and blood oxygen saturation measured daily using automatic devices. Blood samples are collected on the first and last days for laboratory analysis, including markers like SIRT-1 and IL-6. The researchers assess changes in these parameters over 7 days to evaluate the impacts of ischemic preconditioning. The total participation lasts during hospitalization with continuous monitoring of cardiovascular and inflammatory responses.
