What this Trial Is About
This research aims to explore how reliable child and parent reports are on coping skills, anxiety, and other related outcomes, as well as to test how practical and acceptable a proposed cognitive behavioural (CB) preventative program is for young children. The study also seeks to provide an early indication of the program's effectiveness in reducing emotional difficulties among children in kindergarten years. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups. The first group, called the CB-arm, will receive four storybooks with audio narrations focusing on cognitive behavioural strategies like relaxation, social skills, exposure, and cognitive techniques, with psychoeducation included. The second group, the LANG-arm, will receive four storybooks with audio players emphasizing story structure and vocabulary as a control. Each storybook is read twice per week, totaling eight sessions lasting 15 to 20 minutes each. Throughout the study, parents and children will be assessed using various tools related to coping skills, anxiety, social-emotional learning, and emotional adjustment, mainly between weeks 9 and 10. Measurements include parent reports and child-generated personal stories. The study will monitor how well participants engage with the program and the impact on emotional and coping outcomes over time. The total participation period covers the reading sessions and final assessments.
