What this Trial Is About

This research aims to establish and evaluate a Community Living Labs (CoLLab) Learning Health System to improve access to prostate health services, education, and risk assessment specifically in Black men. The study focuses on addressing prostate cancer disparities, as cancer is the second leading cause of death among Black men, who are less likely to receive prostate cancer screening. The CoLLab system uses well-trained community health workers to connect communities with clinicians, potentially improving access to clinical trials and prostate cancer care in Black men. Participants in this study will access the CoLLab Learning Health System services at least twice a month for up to one year. The system is being developed and tested at three American Legion Posts, with one post serving as the hub and two as spokes, while a comparison post without CoLLab is included for evaluation. The study will assess the creation and impact of the CoLLab system and explore how it might be replicated in other Black communities nationally. Throughout participation, individuals will complete surveys and use CoLLab services regularly. Researchers will measure how well the system is established, its impact on individual and community health levels, and the feasibility of replicating it, including cost and qualitative assessments, over up to two years. Participants must live in the Jacksonville, Florida area and be willing to consent. The study includes adult Black individuals aged 21 to 80 years, with some groups specifically between 30 and 80 years old, and involves ongoing evaluation of prostate health equity outcomes.
