What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating a multi-component intervention aimed at strengthening families with children aged 3 to 11 who have experienced Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). The study focuses on addressing challenges faced by fragmented health and education systems by using partnerships across pediatricians, community health workers, and parenting educators. The goal is to deliver vital information and resources to families with ACEs to improve health outcomes, reduce toxic stress, and build resilience in children. The intervention involves training all three groups in an evidence-informed curriculum to support families and youth resilience. Participants are divided into three groups: children with ACEs receiving care from trained providers, children with ACEs receiving usual care, and children without ACEs receiving usual care. Families in the intervention group receive counseling about ACEs, resilience, stress management, and healthy relationships, along with referrals to community health workers and parenting educators. Participants are evaluated at baseline and then again at 2 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months after their well-child visit. The study measures changes in toxic stress using the Child Allostatic Load Index and psychosocial problems using the Pediatric Symptom Checklist. Researchers track child health outcomes and examine factors that may influence the intervention's impact. The total participation lasts for one year with repeated assessments to monitor changes over time.
