What this Trial Is About
Congenital heart defects CHD affect millions worldwide and are a leading cause of birth defects and childhood illness. This study evaluates whether a home monitoring program combined with routine postoperative care can reduce complications and death in newborns and young children after heart surgery. The program uses telemedicine, validated sensors, personalized alert systems, and standardized medical responses to improve postoperative monitoring. Participants are divided into two groups. One group receives usual medical monitoring through regular consultations and tests over six months after surgery, including weekly visits in the first month and less frequent visits thereafter. The other group receives the same medical monitoring plus home monitoring where parents use sensors and a smartphone app to measure and transmit key health data daily for the first four weeks and weekly for the next five months. Alerts are generated if measurements deviate from individualized standards, prompting a medical team response. During the study, children will have scheduled consultations with exams, heart scans, and questionnaires about health and quality of life. Parents will also complete questionnaires about their stress and quality of life. Researchers will measure outcomes including postoperative illness and death rates, childrens weight growth, and acceptance of the monitoring system by families and medical teams. The study lasts six months after surgery with continuous monitoring and follow-up.
