Researchers are conducting a long-term observational study called the CALM Master Observational Trial MOT to better understand youth aged 11 to 24 who have multiple mental health conditions MMHC, defined as having two or more mental health diagnoses. This study aims to track the progression and outcomes of MMHC over time and identify risk and protective factors. Additionally, a subset of participants will join a Deep Phenotyping Cohort to explore brain-based mechanisms and potential biomarkers related to illness complexity. Participants in the MOTLight Protocol will have clinical and functional measures collected, including blood-based analyses such as proteomics and genomic testing from blood or saliva. Over three years, about 1620 youth will be enrolled for these assessments. A smaller subgroup of approximately 614 youth will also take part in the Deep Phenotyping Protocol, which involves more detailed clinical, behavioral, and cognitive assessments, as well as multimodal neuroimaging conducted at baseline and six months. Throughout the study, participants will complete a wide range of questionnaires and standardized assessments at multiple time points up to 42 months, covering areas like mental health symptoms, quality of life, cognitive function, and physical exams. Biological samples such as blood and saliva will be collected periodically. The study team will use this data to better understand MMHC development, severity, and response to interventions. The total participation period can extend up to three years with follow-up assessments scheduled at regular intervals.
