What this Trial Is About
Plantar fasciitis is a common cause of heel pain that can worsen during pregnancy due to weight gain, hormonal changes, and altered body mechanics. This study evaluates and compares two manual therapy techniques, Myofascial Release MFR and Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization IASTM, to determine their effects on pain and foot function in pregnant women diagnosed with plantar fasciitis. The trial involves 44 pregnant women aged 20 to 40 years in their second or third trimester. Participants are randomly assigned to two groups. Both groups receive baseline treatment including therapeutic ultrasound, stretching exercises for the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles, tibialis anterior strengthening, and a home exercise program. Group A receives additional Myofascial Release therapy targeting the plantar fascia and related foot muscles, while Group B receives Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization with specialized instruments focusing on the plantar fascia and surrounding tissues. Treatments occur three times per week for four weeks, with each session lasting about 30 minutes. During the study, participants are assessed before and after the four-week treatment period. Pain intensity is measured using the Numerical Pain Rating Scale NPRS, and foot-related pain, disability, and function are assessed by the Foot Function Index FFI. Safety precautions for pregnancy are maintained throughout. The findings aim to guide physiotherapy choices for managing plantar fasciitis in pregnant women by identifying which manual therapy better reduces pain and improves function.
