What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating two behavioral treatments, Organizational Skills Training (OST) and Mindfulness-Based Intervention (MBI), for adolescents aged 13 to 17 with a pre-existing diagnosis of ADHD. This randomized controlled trial will compare these standard care approaches to understand which may better support ADHD symptom management, executive functioning, emotional regulation, and organizational skills. The study is conducted at Seattle Children's Hospital and involves patients referred to the clinic for ADHD psychosocial treatment. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either OST or MBI, both delivered through eight 90-minute telehealth sessions over eight weeks. Each group includes a parent "pre-session" to explain the program and encourage home practice. These interventions are part of routine clinical care and are billable services at the Seattle Children's Behavior, Attention, Management (BAM) clinic. Two cohorts will enroll 18 youth each, running simultaneously in fall and winter sessions. During the study, adolescents and one caregiver will complete questionnaires at baseline and after treatment via the REDCap system. These assessments measure ADHD symptoms, functional impairment, executive functioning, emotion regulation, mindfulness traits, organizational skills, and treatment satisfaction. Researchers will monitor attendance, homework completion, and acceptability through Likert scale ratings. The primary outcomes focus on changes in ADHD symptoms and related functional areas over the eight-week treatment period.
