What this Trial Is About
Asthma is a common condition that affects many adults in Ireland, with symptoms that can fluctuate between stable periods and times when asthma worsens. Managing asthma effectively every day is important to reduce these flare-ups and improve quality of life. This research aims to evaluate a new education program designed to help adults better manage their asthma and to assess how easily this program can be delivered by nurses in general practice or primary care settings. Participants in this study will receive the Walsh Asthma Self-management Programme (WASP), which includes asthma education, self-management training, and behavior change strategies. The study focuses on how well this program can be implemented and its impact over six months. All participants will receive the same intervention, with no placebo or comparison group. During the study, participants will be evaluated on the feasibility of implementing the program and their asthma education progress over six months. Researchers will assess asthma control using questionnaires and lung function tests such as spirometry measuring forced expiratory volume, vital capacity, and peak expiratory flow. The study tracks changes in self-efficacy, quality of life, and asthma symptoms to understand the program's impact.
