Researchers are conducting the Eating Disorders Genetics Initiative 2 (EDGI2) to better understand various eating disorders and their relationships. The study aims to include 20,000 new participants with conditions such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge-eating disorder, avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID), and individuals without any history of disordered eating. The goal is to increase the diversity and size of the participant group, enrolling at least 30% from underrepresented populations to help develop improved treatments. This observational study groups participants based on their self-reported lifetime history of these eating disorders or lack thereof, without applying any active treatment. Participants are asked to complete a series of questionnaires and provide saliva samples for genetic testing. The study is conducted across multiple countries including the US, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, and Denmark, with specific enrollment ages depending on the country. Participants will be involved in completing questionnaires that assess their eating disorder history, mental health, mood, substance use, quality of life, and behavioral traits like compulsive exercise and perfectionism. Saliva samples will be collected for genotyping. Researchers will measure the number of participants identified with each eating disorder diagnosis and the age at disorder onset. The study monitors current symptoms and lifetime mental health and behavior. Participation spans from enrollment through baseline assessments, with no active treatment or intervention involved.
