Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation ECMO Treatment in Children in Mainland China Over the Past 10 Years

Researchers are studying the use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation ECMO treatment in children across mainland China over the past 10 years. ECMO is a type of life support that helps the lungs and sometimes the heart when they are critically ill. This observational, cross-sectional study aims to understand how ECMO treatment has developed and been applied in critically ill children in China. The study collects information through questionnaires from hospitals that have provided ECMO support to children in the last decade. Data gathered include hospital details, ECMO equipment used, causes of illness, treatment plans, and ECMO modes. The study focuses on children who received ECMO treatment during this period. Participants survival rates from admission to discharge about 10 days will be measured as the primary outcome. Secondary outcomes include the duration of ECMO support and the cost of treatment. This study involves reviewing past cases and gathering data without administering any new treatment, with the goal of better understanding ECMOs role in pediatric critical care in China.
