Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Adult over 18 years old
- Orally intubated patients for the first time connected to mechanical ventilation for less than two weeks
- Glasgow coma scale score between 13 and 15
You will not qualify if you...
- Patients with high risk for laryngeal edema
- Patients with difficult intubation
- Endotracheal tube or anterior-posterior diameter 45% or more
- History of self-extubation
- Patients planned for tracheostomy
