Effect of an Educational Nail Biopsy Video on Pre-operative Anxiety, Health Literacy, and Patient Satisfaction: a Single Center Randomized Controlled Trial

Researchers are evaluating how an educational animated video about a nail biopsy procedure affects anxiety, health literacy, and patient satisfaction in people who are recommended to have this procedure. The study aims to see if showing the video before the biopsy can lower preoperative anxiety, improve understanding of the procedure, and increase satisfaction compared to standard care. This is a randomized controlled trial conducted at a single center. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups. One group will watch the educational video about the nail biopsy in addition to receiving standard care, which includes verbal information and pre- and post-operative handouts accessed via QR code. The other group will receive only the standard care without the video. The study compares these two approaches to assess their impact on patient experience. During the study, participants will complete several assessments immediately after the nail biopsy consultation. These include measures of anxiety using the State Trait Anxiety Inventory and the Amsterdam Preoperative Anxiety and Information Scale, health literacy using four domains of The Health Literacy Questionnaire, and patient satisfaction through a survey. The quality of the video intervention will also be evaluated by feedback from participants who watch it. Participation begins at the consultation and involves completing questionnaires at that time.
