Researchers are studying changes in vision quality after upper blepharoplasty (UB), a surgery to remove excess skin from the upper eyelids, in adults with functional dermatochalasis. This condition causes folds of skin that can block the upper visual field and cause discomfort. The study aims to understand early postoperative changes in contrast sensitivity, tear film quality, and corneal topography, as previous research focused mainly on late postoperative periods and showed varying results. All participants will undergo UB surgery, where excess skin is removed from the upper eyelids under local anesthesia. Before surgery, and then again at seven days and one month after the procedure, researchers will measure contrast sensitivity under bright light, analyze tear film quality, and perform corneal topography to observe both anatomical and functional changes. These tests will be done using specialized equipment at clinical locations. Participants will have a detailed medical and eye exam before surgery, including grading of eyelid appearance and medical history review to identify factors that might affect results. Follow-up visits at one week and one month post-surgery will include repeat vision and tear film tests. Researchers will evaluate how these measures change over time to better understand the effects of UB on vision quality. The total study participation involves these pre- and post-surgery assessments without long-term follow-up beyond one month.
