What this Trial Is About

This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of telerehabilitation combined with in-person outpatient physiotherapy compared to traditional physiotherapy alone for patients who have undergone total hip replacement surgery. The focus is on measuring pain, functional recovery, patient participation, and satisfaction in adults aged 50 to 80 years following this surgery. The study is a randomized clinical trial led by the Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli. Participants in the experimental group will begin with biweekly in-person physiotherapy sessions and, after six sessions, continue their rehabilitation through ten telerehabilitation sessions until the end of outpatient treatment. The control group will receive the standard care consisting of biweekly in-person physiotherapy sessions totaling sixteen sessions. Both interventions aim to support recovery after hip replacement. Throughout the study, participants will be assessed using the Hip disability and Osteoarthritis Outcome score (HOOS) at baseline, 8 weeks, and 12 weeks to evaluate progress. Additional measurements, including the Timed Up and Go test and the Harris Hip Score, will be taken at 8 and 12 weeks to monitor mobility and hip function. The study will track patient adherence and satisfaction with the rehabilitation methods over the course of treatment.
