What this Trial Is About
Dental anxiety is a common concern for adults undergoing dental care. This trial evaluates how orange and tea tree essential oils may help control anxiety and pain during dental treatments. The study is a randomized controlled clinical trial led by Sichuan University, focusing on adults aged 18 to 40 who require various dental procedures. Participants are randomly assigned to one of three groups: exposure to sweet orange essential oil, tea tree essential oil, or water via an aroma diffuser placed near the patient. Each diffuser uses 4 to 6 drops of the assigned substance diluted in water in a controlled space. This setup occurs during dental treatments such as fillings, root canals, periodontal therapy, or tooth extractions. During the study, anxiety and pain levels are measured using specific scales before, during, and after the dental procedures. Researchers also monitor vital signs like blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen saturation at multiple timepoints. Participants are expected to complete all assessments and follow-ups throughout the study period, which runs until September 2026.
