What this Trial Is About

This observational study explores how infertility and the use of assisted reproductive technology (ART) relate to sexual function and sexual behaviors in women seeking fertility treatment. It aims to understand changes in sexual desire, satisfaction, and activity that may be linked to infertility and the stress of fertility treatments. The research focuses on women assigned female at birth, under 45 years old, diagnosed with infertility, and receiving care at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) Reproductive Centre. Participants in this study complete an anonymous questionnaire during their clinic visit, which includes the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) measuring various aspects of sexual function like desire, arousal, and satisfaction. Additional questions explore sexual activities and behavior changes before and after fertility treatments. No identifying information is collected, and questionnaires are returned anonymously to protect confidentiality. Around 500 participants are expected to take part over a 12-month period. Participants provide data once by completing the questionnaire while waiting for their appointment. Researchers analyze responses to assess relationships between infertility type, duration, number of unsuccessful ART cycles, and sexual function or behavior. Data are securely stored and kept confidential. The main outcomes measured are female sexual function and sexual behavior from the questionnaire responses. The study's findings may help improve support for women experiencing infertility.
