What this Trial Is About
Mechanical neck pain MNP is a common condition causing neck discomfort due to issues in muscles, joints, discs, and ligaments without nerve root compression. This study evaluates the effects of cervical spine mobilization alone versus combined thoracic and cervical spine mobilization on pain, disability, and quality of life in adults with MNP. The trial is a randomized controlled trial involving 66 participants with neck pain lasting more than 4 weeks, aiming to provide evidence for physiotherapy treatment approaches. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups for an 8-week treatment period with sessions twice weekly. Group A receives cervical spine Maitland mobilization applied to specific neck segments, combined with supervised exercises and home exercise programs. Group B receives combined thoracic upper back and cervical spine mobilization using similar techniques, also with supervised and home exercises. Each session lasts about 30 minutes, focusing on improving mobility and reducing pain. During the study, participants will undergo assessments at the start, mid-point 4 weeks, and end 8 weeks of treatment. Measures include pain intensity using the Numeric Pain Rating Scale, functional disability via the Neck Disability Index, and quality of life through the Short Form-36 questionnaire. The trial includes patient education on posture and ergonomics, with data analyzed to compare the two treatment methods impact on symptoms and daily functioning over the 8-week intervention.
