Study of Heart and Blood Vessel Risk Factors in Adults with Chronic Kidney Disease Starting Dialysis

What this Trial Is About

Researchers are studying chronic kidney disease patients who are starting dialysis to understand how certain bone mineral markers relate to the progression of vascular calcification over two years. The study focuses on non-traditional cardiovascular risk factors that may impact patients heart health during this period. Participants will have their plasma levels of osteoprotegerin and fibroblast growth factor 23 measured, along with a vascular calcification score assessed by X-ray of the lateral abdominal aorta. Cardiovascular events will also be recorded throughout the two-year follow-up to evaluate changes and risks. During the study, patients will undergo blood tests and imaging to monitor these markers and calcification progression. Researchers will track cardiovascular events and analyze the data to see how initial marker levels relate to vascular changes. The total participation lasts two years, during which patients receive regular assessments and monitoring.
