What this Trial Is About

Researchers are studying children with known or suspected endocrine or metabolic disorders to better understand these conditions and their inheritance. This observational study aims to identify genes involved in these disorders, which could help improve diagnosis and treatment. The study is sponsored by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) and focuses on pediatric endocrine diseases across diverse populations. Participants include children aged 3 months to 18 years with endocrine or metabolic conditions, along with family members aged 3 months to 100 years who may join for genetic testing. The study involves reviewing medical records, clinical exams, and various tests such as blood, urine, saliva, growth hormone assessments, imaging (X-rays, ultrasound, scans), genetic testing, sleep studies, and medical photography. Some children may undergo surgery or other procedures as part of their diagnosis or treatment, with tissue samples taken if surgery occurs. During the study, children may have follow-up visits for ongoing diagnosis and treatment. Family members have a single visit for medical history and DNA sample collection. Researchers will monitor the number and diversity of endocrine diagnoses and collect genetic samples. The study involves comprehensive assessments and monitoring to better understand the natural progress and management of pediatric endocrine disorders, with participation lasting as needed for diagnosis and treatment.
