Study of Diagnostic and Treatment Approaches for Adults with Thyroid Conditions Including Hypothyroidism, Hyperthyroidism, Benign Nodules, and Thyroid Cancer

What this Trial Is About

This research aims to evaluate different diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for patients with various thyroid conditions, including hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidismthyrotoxicosis, benign thyroid nodules, and thyroid carcinoma. It is an observational, single-center study with both retrospective and prospective phases, conducted by the IRCCS Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria di Bologna. The study includes patients diagnosed from January 1, 1995, onward and follows them for up to 20 years to gather comprehensive data on thyroid disease management. The study includes two groups a retrospective group with about 2850 patients diagnosed before the study approval and a prospective group enrolling about 3000 patients over 10 years after the study approval. Patients will not undergo any procedures beyond their usual clinical care. Data collected will reflect routine clinical practice without additional laboratory or instrumental exams specifically for the study. Participants will be monitored through standard clinical visits and assessments regularly conducted in daily practice. Researchers will collect clinical variables commonly recorded by physicians to characterize the patient population and compare different therapies and diagnostic approaches over an average follow-up of 17 years. The study also evaluates various treatment outcomes, drug effects, and prognostic factors related to thyroid diseases throughout the long follow-up period.
