What this Trial Is About
Researchers are exploring the experiences and support needs of young adults aged 16 to 25 living with severe or uncontrolled asthma. This condition causes symptoms like wheezing, chest tightness, and breathlessness due to narrowed airways. The study aims to better understand the challenges faced by this high-risk group and how their care can be improved, as current treatments often do not fully control their symptoms. The research is observational and conducted in severe asthma centers in Manchester and Liverpool. Participants will take part in two study parts: first, one-to-one interviews guided by photos chosen by the participants to help describe their asthma experiences; second, focus group interviews where participants discuss insights from the first part and share their thoughts on improving care. Both interviews can be done face-to-face or online. After these, a workshop with patients and care providers will develop shared goals and plans for better asthma care. During the study, researchers will collect medical and demographic information from records, record and transcribe interviews, and analyze the data for themes and experiences. The main outcome is understanding patients' perceived experiences and challenges living with severe or uncontrolled asthma over 12 months. The study will produce reports, creative media, and presentations to share findings with both professionals and the public. Participation involves interviews and group discussions with no medical treatment administered.
