What this Trial Is About
Researchers are studying the levels of nicotinamide metabolism-associated protein NMAP in adults newly diagnosed with renal or liver tumors compared to individuals without these tumors. The study aims to observe differences in NMAP serum levels between patients with primary renal cancer and control groups without renal cancer, establish appropriate cut-off values using ROC curves, and evaluate NMAP alongside other tumor biomarkers. This observational research is sponsored by Xinhua Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. Participants are assigned to one of four groups based on imaging findings those with renal masses planning surgery, those with renal or ureteral stones without tumors, those with renal cysts, and those with hepatic masses planning surgery. Blood samples of about 4 ml are collected for testing NMAP levels and other tumor markers. Surgical treatment excludes methods like radiofrequency ablation or cryoablation, which do not allow pathological examination. Participants will undergo blood draws and imaging tests to assess tumor presence and monitor NMAP levels between September 2019 and September 2021. Eligibility includes being 18 years or older, capable of consenting, and not having received prior treatment for kidney or liver tumors. The study also monitors cardiopulmonary, liver, and kidney function to ensure patients can tolerate surgery. Researchers will analyze collected data to understand NMAPs role as a biomarker, with study participation lasting until the study completion date in January 2030.
