Testing the Dutch Version of the Pectus Excavatum Evaluation Questionnaire in Patients Aged 12 to 18 Scheduled for Nuss Surgery

Researchers are evaluating the Dutch version of the Pectus Excavatum Evaluation Questionnaire PEEQ, which measures disease severity from the patients perspective in those with pectus excavatum. The PEEQ was originally developed in English and recently translated into Dutch. The study aims to test and validate this questionnaire in Dutch-speaking patients scheduled for surgery. Participants include pectus excavatum patients aged 12 to 18 years who are scheduled for a Nuss procedure, along with their parents or legal guardians. Data collection occurs at three points before surgery during an outpatient clinic visit when the PEEQ is completed on paper, two months after surgery when the PEEQ is completed electronically, and a test-retest phase conducted electronically at least two weeks after a previous assessment. During the study, participants will complete the questionnaire at these specified times. Researchers will assess the questionnaires structural validity, internal consistency, test-retest reliability, responsiveness, and smallest detectable change. They will also analyze floor and ceiling effects. The study measures how well the questionnaire reflects the patients quality of life related to pectus excavatum, with scores ranging from 22 to 88 where a higher score indicates lower quality of life.
