What this Trial Is About
Researchers are conducting a follow-up study in Turkey to better understand the long-term effects of trauma on children and adolescents. The study focuses on those who were evaluated in a previous thesis study one year ago and examines how many continue to meet criteria for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or receive a diagnosis of Complex PTSD (CPTSD). It also aims to translate and test a trauma assessment scale for children in Turkish, filling a gap in local resources. The study will re-evaluate children and adolescents aged 7 to 18 who were exposed to trauma and assessed one year earlier at the Istanbul Faculty of Medicine outpatient clinic. Parents and children will complete various questionnaires about trauma, anxiety, depression, and childhood experiences. Clinicians will conduct interviews based on international diagnostic criteria for PTSD and CPTSD, along with other psychological assessments. Participants and their parents will be involved in multiple assessments including questionnaires and clinical interviews. Researchers will collect data on trauma exposure, mental health symptoms, and overall functioning. The study will start in February 2025 with data analysis following, and aims to finish by July 2025. The main outcomes include rates of PTSD and CPTSD, factors linked to these diagnoses, and the validation of the Turkish trauma screening tool.
